Ever find yourself spiraling down late-night rabbit holes, wondering if there's a career you love out there waiting for you? If you’re questioning your career path and feeling like your skills aren't being fully utilized, you're not alone. Let's dive in and discover how you can rediscover your spark and find work that truly fulfills you.
Common signs that you might be feeling unfulfilled in your career
You might be successful in your career, but deep down, you feel unhappy, frustrated, and demotivated. You're tired of dealing with the same issues over and over. Work is stressful, and on those rare occasions when you get a break to daydream, you think there has to be more out there – something bigger, better, and more aligned with who you are.
But then reality hits, and the thought of starting over in your career feels overwhelming. You wonder, "What does fulfilling even mean for me?" or "Where do I even begin?" And the idea of a meaningful and exciting career that lets you live the life you want stays just that – a daydream.
But here's the good news: There's an incredible assessment to help you rediscover your spark and find work you’d love to do.
How to find a career you love
Let’s talk about this incredible game-changer – The Sparketype® Assessment. It’s a free, 10-minute test at Sparketype.com that identifies what type of work truly makes you come alive. Unlike other assessments, this one is surprisingly spot-on in pinpointing what energizes you and fills you with purpose.
My Sparketype® is The Scientist. For me, that means coming alive when pursuing burning questions, puzzles, and problems. It’s all about solving the problem of what people are meant to do in their careers. Intrigued?
Let’s dive deeper.
Understanding The Sparketype® Assessment to Find Work You Love
A Brief Breakdown on How The Assessment Works
- Primary Sparketype®: The strongest impulse for work that makes you feel excited, inspired, and on-purpose.
- Shadow Sparketype®: Often the work you do in order to be able to do the work of your Primary at a higher level.
- Anti Sparketype®: The type of work that is the heaviest lift for you. It takes the most out of you and requires the greatest amount of recovery, even if, objectively, it's not that hard.
Understanding how the different parts of your Sparketypes® profile work synergistically will help you uncover the ideal career for you. By recognizing how they all work together, you can harness your Primary's passion, your Shadow's supportive strength, and work with your Anti's challenges to create a balanced and fulfilling career. This synergy is the key to discovering a career that not only excites you but also aligns perfectly with who you are.
Example of career change: Introducing Katie Momo
Recently, I sat down to talk about career fulfillment with my friend Katie Momo, a brilliant sales copywriter and strategist responsible for her clients selling over 12 million dollars in online product (and counting!) - without being 'salesy'. She's usually hiding behind the scenes strategizing launches and writing persuasive psychology-driven copy that gets people clicking the 'buy' button. Even though you may not have heard of Katie, you might've bought something from 'her' already, since she moonlights as 'big names' of some of the biggest web celebs. She loves helping people unlock conversions, one click at a time.
Katie's Sparketype® Experience
Katie’s Primary Sparketype® is The Scientist, just like mine. This means we share the madness of our overactive minds, constantly buzzing with creative solutions to burning questions and ideas for solving them. Katie thrives on solving complex problems and loves creating things, which makes her work as a copywriter incredibly fulfilling.
Katie's Shadow Sparketype® is the Maker, which complements her primary role perfectly. She loves the process of creating, whether it's crafting a compelling sales copy or strategizing a new campaign. This aspect of her personality allows her to bring innovative ideas to life, enhancing her problem-solving capabilities as a Scientist.
Katie said the Sparketype® Assessment made her feel truly understood. She described it as "like an x-ray," explaining that it highlighted her strengths and weaknesses, helping her understand herself better. Her Anti Sparketype®, the Nurturer®, indicates she feels drained in deeply emotional or caregiving roles. "Yeah, it’s true, haha," she admitted. "It taxes me a lot, and I find that work very draining." This realization helps her steer clear of roles that don’t align with her strengths.
Imagine knowing that about yourself – woah, right?
How to find the career that fits you?
In her current role, Katie is given the freedom to fully embrace her primary Sparketype®, The Scientist. She often finds herself struck by brilliant ideas in the middle of the night. She embraces this as part of her creative process, jotting down these midnight insights to use later. "3 a.m. is my witching hour," she laughed. "I wake up, and my brain is like, 'Girl, I've got some ideas for you!'"
As a copywriter, Katie thrives on solving complex problems and piecing together puzzles. She loves the challenge of positioning something to show its value, describing it as "all one giant puzzle" that jazzes her up.
This is a huge 180 from her previous job, which didn't utilize or appreciate her problem-solving abilities. "They literally told me, 'We don't pay you to solve problems,'" she recalled. Now, in a role that aligns with her Sparketype®, she feels seen and fulfilled, with her strengths fully leveraged and appreciated.
Katie’s passion for her work in copywriting shines through. "I know it sounds so, so nerdy, but I literally love copywriting. It's so gratifying to be able to help people, to help other businesses get their message into the world."
Watching Katie light up when she talks about her role is truly inspiring. Her enthusiasm and dedication are a testament to finding a role that aligns with your true self. When you do the work that aligns with your Sparketype®, you talk about your work with excitement and passion, just like Katie does.
